Blown-In Fiberglass Insulation

Blown-in fiberglass is one of the most popular and cost-effective attic insulation solutions for Minnesota homes. Lightweight, non-combustible, and resistant to moisture absorption, it settles evenly across irregular attic floors and around obstructions, delivering consistent R-value coverage without gaps or voids. It’s an excellent choice for attic top-ups and full replacements alike.

Blown-In Cellulose Insulation

Made from recycled paper fiber treated with borate for fire and pest resistance, blown-in cellulose is a dense, eco-friendly option that excels at filling irregular cavities and reducing air movement within the insulation layer. Cellulose is particularly well-suited for older Isanti homes where air infiltration is a major concern.

Spray Foam for Attic Applications

For unvented (hot roof) attic assemblies, cathedral ceilings, or areas with complex geometry, closed-cell spray foam delivers an unbeatable combination of air sealing, vapor control, and high R-value per inch. It’s also the go-to solution for sealing attic hatches, knee walls, and the transition zones where your attic meets your living space.

What R-Value Does My Isanti, MN Attic Need?

Minnesota’s climate falls into IECC Climate Zone 6, one of the most demanding heating zones in the continental United States. The U.S. Department of Energy recommends attic insulation levels of R-49 to R-60 for existing Minnesota homes—significantly higher than the R-19 to R-30 commonly found in older Isanti properties.

Many homeowners are shocked to discover just how far below code their attic insulation falls. During your free attic inspection, our estimators will measure your existing R-value and provide a clear, honest breakdown of what it would take to bring your home up to current Minnesota energy code standards.

The Hidden Cost of an Under-Insulated Attic

Heat rises, and without adequate attic insulation, that expensive conditioned air goes straight through your roof. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, heating and cooling account for nearly half of the average home’s total energy use, and the attic is the single biggest source of heat loss in most Minnesota homes.

Stop the Heat Leak Today!

Beyond energy waste, a poorly insulated or inadequately ventilated attic creates a cascade of expensive secondary problems:

  • Ice Dams: When heat escapes through your roof deck, it melts snow from below. That meltwater refreezes at your cold eaves, forming ice dams that force water up under your shingles and into your home’s structure—causing thousands of dollars in roof, soffit, and interior damage.
  • Moisture & Mold Growth: Warm, humid air from your living space migrates into a cold, under-insulated attic and condenses on wood surfaces. Over time, this creates the perfect conditions for mold growth and wood rot that can compromise your roof structure.
  • HVAC Overload: Your furnace and air conditioner work significantly harder to compensate for a leaky thermal envelope, shortening equipment lifespan and driving up repair costs.
  • Uncomfortable Living Spaces: Rooms directly beneath a poorly insulated attic are chronically cold in winter and overheated in summer, no matter how high you set the thermostat.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

How many inches of insulation should be in my attic?

To meet modern Minnesota energy codes (typically R-49 to R-60), you generally need a substantial layer of insulation. Depending on the specific type and brand of loose-fill material you currently have, minimum recommendations often start at 11 to 15 inches, though hitting an R-60 rating usually requires 18 to 20+ inches of blown-in fiberglass or cellulose. Our inspection will determine exactly what you need.

Do we need to be out of the house when my attic loose-fill insulation is installed?

Generally, no. Modern blown-in fiberglass and cellulose are safe and non-toxic. Our professional crews take immense care to prep your home, lay down drop cloths, and contain the work area around your attic access point so your daily life is minimally disrupted.

Should I be able to see light in my attic?

It depends on where the light is coming from! If you see daylight around the extreme lower edges of your roofline (the eaves and soffit venting), this is usually a good sign (it means your soffit vents are open and allowing proper incoming airflow). However, if you see daylight coming directly through the roof deck or around a chimney chase, it indicates a structural leak that needs immediate sealing.

Can I add venting to my attic if there is currently not sufficient airflow?

Absolutely. A lack of ventilation is one of the most common issues we fix. During your insulation upgrade, our team can install durable air chutes (baffles) to clear soffit pathways, and we can recommend or install additional exhaust vents to ensure proper air circulation and protect your roof deck.
